Imagine having the ability to quickly and easily pull claims history, demographic information and key details about patients, all within a secure environment! One Health Record® makes this possible today in Alabama by providing the necessary infrastructure to securely exchange electronic health records between authorized participants. Participating providers are able to query the interoperable, two-way data exchange from within their electronic health record system to access patient health data from other providers. Providers without an EHR system can access a secure messaging system.
Together, they create a trusted network to facilitate the efficient use and exchange of patient data to support patient-centered health care and continuous improvements in access, quality, outcomes and efficiency.
The One Health Record® system was created as Alabama’s health information exchange (HIE) through a federal grant awarded to the state in 2009. Under the guidance of the Alabama Health Information Commission, One Health Record® has emerged as an interoperable, two-way data exchange system between providers, hospitals and others within Alabama and in other states.
